What NOT to Do

Never (ever) let your kids crawl underneath the basket of a shopping cart. Pieper did and this is what happened. Somehow, she smashed two of her fingers ripping out one nail as it happened and leaving the other one black and blue and ready to fall off. I'll spare all the details, but it was gross. Really gross. I felt HORRIBLE and cried. A lot. Thankfully, no broken fingers and all will eventually heal up. Definitely didn't receive any mom awards that day.

(This is the best picture I could get... she's very sensitive about her "new" fingers and will barely look at them.)

That looks SO painful. Thankfully it sounds like all will heal. The fingers have a ton of nerves don't they? Oh goodness, SO ouch. Thank you for posting this. The other day Elijah wanted to ride underneath and I let him and he must have had a hand poking out far because when I rounded a corner, his pinky got jammed a little. Nothing visible or permanent but still painful for him. Reading this, I see how much worse it could have been. I will never let my kids ride underneath again!

Oh poor girl!! That looks like it hurt so much. Good reminder to not let Ella sit there when she gets older.
p.s. you ARE a wonderful mom!! Accidents happen.

Ouchie! Poor Pieper. Jason likes to ride under the cart, hopefully he's old enough to keep his fingers out of the way. But I'm going to show this picture to my kids and warn them.

How crazy!! I let Nate do that all the time! Thanks for the warning. His days of under-cart riding are over!

Oh my goodness! The whole thing sounds awful. I think every mom has those moments. I hope they heal quickly.

Oh, poor girl! I tell my kids that exact thing will happen when they want to go for a ride at the store. Thanks for the proof that mom isn't totally mean and no fun!

ah, baby girl... so sad! for you and her! don't beat yourself up, every mother on earth will have at LEAST one story like that before her job is done :) looks like from your other blog post, it is not affecting her drawing abilities though :) love the eyelashes!
