There weren't too many things about celebrating my birthday this year that I was excited about. I can say, however, that I was really looking forward to spending the entire weekend away with Jake. Instead of calling it my "birthday" celebration, I liked to refer to it as our "couple's retreat." Sounds way less painful than recognizing you're another year older and that much closer to 40. Ouch.
We left early Saturday morning after dropping the girls off with my parents. We had an enjoyable drive over and agreed we'd only talk about "the serious stuff," finances, work, life... on the way over. Those topics were off limits the rest of the time. Once we arrived, we spent the next five hours shopping downtown. Who knew you could spend so much time shopping when you don't have little people tagging along?! We looked for our annual ornaments, Christmas ideas and definitely splurged on our share of treats over the weekend.
After checking in and relaxing for about an hour, we decided to hit the 6 pm movie- The Help. Very good and fun to spend time in a movie theater again! Afterwards we had a nice birthday dinner at Viscoti's. We went home with full bellies and a happy heart.
The next day we enjoyed a late breakfast The Enzian. We decided to take our favorite drive down Icicle Creek Road and stumbled upon a glorious resort- The Sleeping Lady. We explored for about an hour and definitely made a commitment to try it out someday.
We went back into town to try our luck again at finding the girls ornaments and ended up picking up the perfect Snow Baby pieces.
