Potholes

My family and I took off for the Potholes August 16th - 19th. Sadly, Jake wasn't able to go with me and the girls because he had school to attend, but we didn't let that stop us. I piled up our car with the three girls and my niece and her BFF and we caravaned our way 3 hours east to the Potholes Resevoir with the rest of my family.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by some pretty aggressive bees. I immediately wanted to pack things up and head either home or to the nearest hotel! I thought... oh no, this is going to be a LONG 4 days! But, we learned to deal with the little annoyances the whole time and gladly, only 2 people walked away with bee stings.

The adults quickly set up camp while the kids didn't waste time in getting their toys out and making themselves right at home.

And being the fabulous grandma that she is, my mom always comes armed with lots of crafts and activities for the kids. Here they are making their very own "cousins camp" shirts.

That night I made dinner for everyone- spaghetti with french bread and corn on the cob. Not too bad for outdoor cooking! Bedtime was a little rough with the girls being a little nervous about sleeping outside in a tent for the first time. I, too, didn't sleep much nervous about being alone with just me and the girls and having Ireland wake up in the middle of the night. But, we survived and each night got a little easier and easier after that.

The next day we woke bright and early and had a yummy breakfast from my parents. We quickly gathered up our beach gear, loaded up the boat and jetskis and took off for a day at the lake. We had our own private beach and lagoon. Perfect for pulling the toys right up to the beach and hopping on and off. The kids loved swimming in the shallow water and building every kind of castle and hole possible. The adults loved showing off for eachother on the jetskis, skiing, wakeboarding and tubing.

The next day was much of the same except we got a little goofier and some got a little more tired.

Here is the crew preparing to run down the hill and into the water.

And they're off!

And then it just got crazy!

And as we prepared to go home and break down camp, my mom, once again, provided an activity for the kids to keep them busy.

A huge thank you to all my family for all your help with me and the girls. We had such a great time! Here's to hoping we make this a family tradition for years to come!

We are family.

You are a brave girl but it looks like it was worth it. You sure have been a busy mom this summer but it sounds like you've had a great time.
