Oh, Those Blues

A little unknown fact about me is that I like things loud and fast. (Maybe that's why I starting dating Jake in the beginning- he drove a FAST car!) For some reason, seeing something in motion with such extremes makes me giddy. I think, no, I KNOW, I get that from my dad. My dad is IN LOVE with hydroplane racing. I mean, all year round he gets on the internet and watches race after race after race. It's cute. From time to time, he'll wrangle us in to "watch a really good one." So, it's only appropriate that from as early as I can remember, Seafair was a big deal to us. I have memories of piling onto our boat, battling the traffic on and off the water, watching all the crazy kids ON their boats and watching the Blue Angels and the hydro races. I loved it! The past couple of years though, we've watched the Blues from the I-90 bridge and, since having kids, I haven't gone in person to watch any races- just sent Jake. This year, with my dad in California (we tried not to talk too much about him missing them this year!), Jake and I decided to go ourselves with the girls. Jake had the week off school, but being such extreme temperatures, he wasn't able to work until late in the evening. As Friday arrived, we started debating if she should go or not with the girls given that it had been so hot. We piled in the car anyway and headed towards Seattle. Jake had been wanting to get his concealed weapons license, so after a quick detour to the Seattle Courthouse, we managed to find a great little park on the water just in time to watch those Blues. Kennedy loved watching them but Pieper on the other hand, covered her ears and tried to hide in my legs the whole time. She, apparently, did NOT inherit my same love. After a round otter pops and ice cream, we all felt very satisfied that we all got a little bit of that Seafair experience. If only now I can convince Kennedy that not every plane that flies overhead is a Blue Angel!

I too have fond memories of Sea fair growing up! One of these years we'll have to take the boat out with all of the other crazy people. Can you believe Darek went with out me?

So fun. We'll all have to go next year. :) I got all teary-eyed seeing them fly over. It's just impressive and amazing.

It's such a great thing we have here to enjoy in Seattle! What park did you guys find? Was it Madison Park?

How fun! I never did attend that when living there. Now I wish I had, how cool!
